End-Of-Year
Celebration on Friday, May 10th!!
Please join us in
celebrating the end of the 2001-2002 Puente Program
with a celebration honoring our students, mentors,
and supporters. Skyline College faculty and staff
are all invited to attend! As we end the 2001-2002
Academic Program, we want to take the opportunity
to thank the people who have supported the Puente
Program as it has grown and developed throughout
the years. To our mentors, we thank you for your
dedication and diligence. You have supported our
students by sharing your experiences in the world
of work and by encouraging and motivating our
students to pursue higher goals. To our students,
we want to thank you for a wonderful year. Indeed,
we have learned as much from you as you from us. We
look forward to your continued growth and look
forward to what your future holds. To our "amigos
de Puente", muchisimas gracias for supporting us
financially and emotionally. We could not have done
this without you! While we end the academic year,
we do not end the bonds created within the Puente
Program. "Once a Puentista,
always a Puentista!" We look forward to our
continued work with our Puente students as they
move to a new phase of the Puente Program (Phase
III). We wait in anticipation to meeting and
molding a new set of Puente leaders and scholars in
the new academic year! Welcome Imelda
Hermosillo to the Skyline College Puente Program!
Imelda will take over the role of
Co-Coordinator/Counselor position in the Skyline
College Puente Program in the Fall 2002 semester.
Imelda comes to the program with a wealth of
knowledge and experience ... Bienvenidos
Imelda!!! Jacquie has been the
ongoing heart and soul of Puente for the last 6
years, and we say goodbye to her with a mixture of
melancholy and happiness as she begins a new
chapter at Skyline with some exciting new projects.
When I became the Puente English teacher a year
ago, I was told in the training that the pairing of
the Puente counselor and English teacher was like
an arranged marriage-some work quite well while
others fail miserably. With those, um, inspiring
words, I returned to Skyline and began working side
by side with Jacquie and am happy to say the
"marriage" has been excellent and happy. Thank you
Jacquie for your kindness, your dedication, your
energy, your reliability, and for coordinating,
recruiting, sharing smart insights in class, for
making the field trips fun and run smoothly, for
being everything one could want in a Puente
partner. You have made such a positive impact on
the people associated with Puente and you will be
sorely missed! |
