The beach at the end of the street where I was staying in Sydney in a neighborhood called Manly. This is Manly Beach, one of 15 beaches in this neighborhood alone.

My friends and I went hiking in the Blue Mountains and enjoyed views of steep cliff faces and many waterfalls.

Me feeding a kangaroo at a petting zoo outside of Byron Bay. There were about 20 tame kangaroos here that ate bread out of our hands.

One had a "joey," or baby kangaroo in her pouch.

You can see the joey’s leg sticking out of the mother’s pouch here.

A beach in Byron Bay, a small, relaxed beach town about 10 hours by car north of Sydney on the east coast of Australia.

.....

My friends and I went snorkeling in Byron Bay and saw sea turtles, many colorful fish and even a small and harmless Leopard shark.

Canberra, the capital of Australia

.....

The old Parliament House (the equivalent of the U.S. Congress) in Australia's capital of Canberra. In the foreground painted on the ground is an Aboriginal protest against the government.

More Aboriginal protest situated across from the old Parliament. In the 1950's, it was policy to take Aboriginal children and give them to white families to raise. The Aboriginal people are now requesting an apology from the government. This apology has yet to be made due to the current conservative government and Prime Minister, but it is believed that the apology will probably come with the next administration.

On New Year's Eve, people camp out all day in areas that have the best views of the Harbour Bridge where they set off an impressive10 million dollar firework display.

.....

A view of the Sydney cityscape at night on New Year's Eve. We waited with others for about 12 hours to see the firework display.

.....
Some of the fireworks that were set off the Harbour Bridge at midnight bringing in 2001. The snake is an Aboriginal symbol and the star is a symbol of the Federation, which emerged when the six British colonies joined together to become the nation of Australia on Jan 1, 1901, exactly 100 years before.

Shark Beach located off Neilson Park. With Sydney's irregular coastline and all the inlets and harbors, there are about 100 different beaches in and around Sydney.

.....

A view of more beaches in Sydney. Palm Beach is on the left and Pittwater is on the right.
