Chiang Mai

At a sit down Khan Toke
dinner in Chiang Mai (in
Northern Thailand) where
they had traditional Thai
dancing as we ate.

From Chiang Mai we
hiked for 3 days up into
the mountains and stayed
with different hill tribes
called the Karen. We
slept on straw mats in
their huts.

Here is woman
crushing wheat kernels.

Here are some Karen
children holding the
pencils and paper we
brought them for their
schoolwork.

Some of our group
joined the villagers for a
game where they hit a
rattan ball back and forth
over a net without using
their hands.

On the third day after
trekking, we were taken
down a river on bamboo
rafts led by Thai guides

After rafting, our
trekking group went
for an elephant ride

After northern Thailand,
my friends and I flew
down to the southern
islands and stayed on
Koh Pha-ngan for about a
week.

Koh Pha-ngan Island. I
stayed in the bungalow in
the background which
cost 100 baht per night
(or $2.80 U.S.).
