Certain chemicals that are lipid-soluble are stored in fats of plants and animals. These chemicals are not metabolized by the animsl, and are instead consumed by their predators. As higher level predators consume more and more prey items, the chemical becomes higher in concentration as it moves up the food chain. This is called biomagnification.
