Manatee or Calamity

By Franklin J. McCoy III

You might be different from the rest,
Special I must confess,
Revealing only the muzzle to our surface,
Every time you catch your breath.

You take your time,
Because life is in no rush,
With little to no enemies,
Yet you're still afraid of us.

Should you be?
I ask for your forgiveness,
For last night the water craft of my relative
Left your mother and brother limbless.

I know what you love,
Please accept the warmth I provide,
I know that cold-hearted people make it hard for you to survive.

It might get lonely under the sea,
But you have rough, thick, tough skin.
I disapprove of calamity,
So that Manatee can be my friend.
