RESEARCH QUESTION:

Do low carbohydrate weight lost diets really work?

Low carbohydrate diets are the talk of the town now.  It is say to be the easiest and quickest way to losing weight, but what is a low carbohydrate diet?  According to weightlossresources.co.uk, “Low carb diets are based on the premise that a diet very low in carbohydrate leads to a reduction in the body's insulin production, resulting in fat and protein (muscle) stores being used as its main energy source.  The aim of low carbohydrate diets is to force the body to use fat as its main energy source, when this happens a person produces 'ketone bodies' to fuel parts of the body that can not use fat as an energy source - the brain, and red blood cells, in particular. When this happens a person is said to be in a state of ketosis - characterised by smelly breath (an acetone smell like nail varnish) and side effects such as nausea and fatigue.

I came upon the topic of low carbohydrate diets, when I was thinking about losing weight.  When planning to lose weight, dieting is one of the key factors in weight lost.  Without a good diet weight lost will be very difficult to achieve.  Low carbohydrate diets have been the talk of the town in weight lost.  Many news and magazine have written many articles of this topic.  My question about this diet is does it really work.
