Bio

I grew up mainly in Maryland around Washington DC. I first came to California at the age of 18 to attend UC Berkeley.

I got involved in community college mathematics as a tutor at De Anza College. First I was a special education tutor (a very hard job and great training). Then I was the Math/Science supervisor in the De Anza tutorial center for a while.

The tutoring led naturally to a career as a math professor. (But there have been periods when I have taught computer programming as well.)

I am interested in teaching innovations, technology as an instructional tool, and new curricula. I'm also one of the faculty people involved in making the AMATYC Math League happen at CSM, and one of the faculty advisors to the CSM Math Club. I still find math to be very enjoyable and teaching to be challenging and fun.

As a teacher I firmly believe that almost anyone can succeed in mathematics. But it's work. To see how click here:
