Using WileyPLUS to complete algorithmic assignments

When you complete algorithmic assignments you must learn how to move between questions and how to save and submit your work.  Since your quizzes and exams will be in WileyPLUS, you should become comfortable with the WileyPLUS environment before you take your first quiz.  The key to using WileyPLUS is to understand how to use the buttons and menus.

Submit Answer, Save For Later

á      When you click Submit Answer WileyPLUS will grade your answer and show you which parts of your answer were correct and which parts of your answer were wrong. Correct answer boxes are highlighted in green and incorrect answer boxes remain white.

á      You must click Submit Answer on each question to grade the question and record your score in the Gradebook.  WileyPLUS grades by the question.  You do not submit the homework assignment, you submit individual questions.

á      You will get partial credit for each box answered correctly.

á      If you wish WileyPLUS to remember the values you have entered but not submitted you must click Save for later before you move to another question. If you enter a number in a box and move to another question without clicking Save for later or Submit Answer the number you entered will be lost.

á      Save for later only saves your work as you move between questions.  To get credit for answer you must click Submit Answer.  If you click Save for Later but you do not click Submit Answer before time expires you will not receive credit.

Show Solution, Show Answer, Link to Text, Repeat Question with New Values

á      After you click Submit Answer two buttons will appear: Show Solution and Show Answer.  Use these buttons to see the step-by-step solution and the answer.

á      The Link to Text button will take you to the section of the textbook related to the question.

á      After you click Submit Answer the Repeat Question with New Values button will appear.  After you have viewed the solution you may try the problem again with new numbers.  You may repeat the question as many times as you like.

Moving between questions: Back, Next, Review Score

á      You may move between questions at any time by clicking the question number in the green column on the left or by using the Back and Next buttons.

á      At any time you may click Review Score in the left column to see the number of points you have earned.

Gradebook

You may visit your Gradebook at anytime to see the number of points you have earned.  The scores you see in your Gradebook are also displayed in Instructor Gradebook.  All work you complete in WileyPLUS is immediately recorded in the Instructor Gradebook; therefore you do not print or send any work to the instructor.

Errors in questions

Occasionally WileyPLUS will show a question number in italics and display a message stating a professor has identified a potential error in the question.  You should attempt these questions.  If there is an error it usually only occurs in rare circumstances.

Follow directions

WileyPLUS requires that you enter your solution in a precise format.  Look for directions in red and follow those directions exactly.  For example, in most cases WileyPLUS requires that you make an entry in every box, even if the box is not used.  If you enter all the information correctly but do not enter Ò0Ó in the empty boxes WileyPLUS will mark your answer wrong.  For example, see the WileyPLUS messages below:

(If answer is zero, please enter 0, do not leave any fields blank.)

(List multiple entries from largest to smallest amount, e.g. 10, 5, 2.)

(Round answers to the nearest whole dollar.)

Maximize learning, points earned, and number of questions seen

You goal should be to maximize your learning and maximize the number of points you earn. You should repeat the question if you can increase your mastery of the problem or significantly increase the points earned. However, if you understand how to do the problem and you answered most parts of the question correctly you do not need to repeat the question; you may learn more, get more points and be better prepared for the exam by seeing new questions instead of repeating questions you have mastered.
