How to calculate your grade point average

Your grade point average will be the total of your MyAccountingLab Overall Score plus your Extra Credit Bonus. For example, if your MAL Overall Score was 73.6% and your Extra Credit Bonus was 8.2% your GPA would be 81.8%.

Grade point average

=    MAL Overall Score + Extra Credit

GPA

   =    73.6% (MAL Overall Score) + 8.2% (Extra Credit)

GPA

   =    81.8%

·      To view your MAL Overall Score see the explanation below.

·      To calculate your Extra Credit points see the Extra credit bonus link on WebAccess.

The MyAccountingLab Overall Score will be calculated using the weighting shown below:

Exams

Each exam, quiz, and homework assignment will have an equal weight.  For example, if there are 10 quizzes and the total quiz percentage is 20% then each quiz has a weight of  2%.

How to see your MyAccountingLab Overall Score

To see your MAL Overall Score click on the Results link in MyAccountingLab, then click Show Overall Score.

Please note:

·      The MAL Overall Score only includes work you attempted.  If you did not attempt a required assignment your actual Overall Score will be lower than shown.  At the end of the semester the instructor will force all required work not attempted to a grade of  “0” and the Overall Score for all students will be correct.

·      The extra credit assignments are not included in your Overall Score.

How to get an “A”

Since the exams are 60% of the MAL Overall Score students assume they must get an “A” on every exam to earn a semester grade of  “A,” as shown in the example below.

However, most students who get an “A” in this course do not have an “A” average on the exams. Students usually earn an “A” by repeating the homework and quiz assignments until they reach a score of 95% or higher, and they earn 2,500 extra credit points to raise their MAL Overall Score by 10%. Often students who earn an “A” for the semester will have an Overall Score in the 80% range and an average test score of less than 90%, as shown below.

How to see your scores on assignments

To view your work for all assignments, required and extra credit, select the Results screen.

The Results screen will show your score for every assignment.  Extra credit assignments are listed as omitted and are shown in gray because they are not included in the MyAccountingLab Overall Score.  However, every extra credit point is counted toward your extra credit bonus. Your extra credit points are the percentage in the Score column.
