If you wish to use the course as part of a certificate or a degree from College of San Mateo you must take the class on a letter grade basis; “Pass / No Pass” courses do not count toward certificates or degrees. See your CSM Academic Advisor if you need more information. Also, some colleges or universities will only accept courses with a letter grade as transfer courses so contact your potential transfer schools for their requirements.

The California State Board of Accountancy accepts courses completed with a “Pass” grade as meeting the education requirement to sit for the CPA exam and the 150-semester hour requirement for licensure. The Board of Accountancy requires that you pass a class with a grade of "C" or higher, and a "Pass" grade is considered a "C" grade.

The default grading option is “Letter Graded,” which means the student will receive a semester grade like “A” or “B” unless the student changes to “Pass / No Pass Grading.”

The student may change the grade option to “Pass / No Pass Grading” when they first register for the class in WebSMART or at any time before the deadline to declare. The Important Dates calendar in the class schedule lists the “Last day to declare Pass/No Pass option.”  To see the Important Dates calendar click here.

Before the deadline you may use WebSMART to view your grading option or change your grading option in the following screens:
