Teresa Morris / Instruction & Reference Services Librarian

As a reference librarian my day includes helping students and faculty at the reference desk with research questions; selecting and purchasing new materials for the library; serving on campus and district committees and creating learning objects that help folks understand how to do research using library and Internet resources. As an instruction librarian my day includes teaching library orientations for various classes; teaching Library Studies courses, coordinating the assessment of the library's instruction programs; and collaborating with other discipline faculty to incorporate information competency skills and theory into their courses.

My schedule changes daily, but in general I'm on campus from 8-4pm Monday thru Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters. I can be contacted in several ways.

About Me
I have been the Instruction and Reference Librarian at the College of San Mateo Library since 2006. I earned tenure in 2010. I coordinate and teach library instruction (orientations) in the library and Library Studies (LIBR) credit courses at the college. I am also responsible for coordinating the reference and research services of the library - including reference assistance, interlibrary loan requests, and the coordination of on-going training for reference librarians. I've served as the chair of the Committee on Instruction (campus curriculum committee) since 2011.

I earned a Bachelors of Arts in History from the University of California at Berkeley. I have also earned a Masters of Science in Library Science (MSLS) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. My background in the library science field includes working as a education librarian at a CSU library and as a special collections librarian while working in professional librarian residency program.

The required textbook for this class is Research Strategies: Finding Your Way Through the Information Fog, 5th Edition. Kindle ebooks can be read on a variety of mobile devices and on PCs and Mac computers. This book will also be available in the CSM Library on course reserve.

You also need a Peninsula System library card. If you have one already, make sure it's still active - they do expire, but all you need to do is visit any PLS library and update your information that they will renew your card.
If you don't have a PLS library card, you can obtain one from any public library in San Mateo County. If you don't live in San Mateo County, you can still get a card that's available to distance education students.

UPDATE 12/28/2015: If you are on the waitlist, you should be checking your school email account. If a space in the class becomes available, the notification will be sent to that account and you will have a limited time (24 hours) to enroll in the class. If you are not on the waitlist, it may open again, depending on the movement of students. Check the WebSchedule often.
