Course Requirements:
- Class attendance is highly recommended.
- Read assigned chapter prior to class.
- There will be lectures and demonstrations at the beginning of each chapter dealing with both text and non-text material (see course guide for dates). PLEASE DON’T PRINT DURING LECTURES . Most class time will focus on students doing the hands-on activities in the book so bring your textbook and disk to each class.
- If you forget your disk, work you do on a new disk will have to be re-entered on the original disk (or the work already entered on the original disk will have to be re-entered on the new disk).
- It may be necessary for you to work on the assignments in open labs or at home to keep on schedule. Three (3) hours per week outside of class may be needed to complete assignments.
- Open lab hours will be posted outside the computer labs after the first week of classes.
- Assignments to Submit (see Course Guide for schedule):
- REQUIRED : All in-class projects must be satisfactorily completed to pass the course. Maximum grade of B can be earned from these assignments
(see OPTIONAL section below for how to earn a grade of A ).
- Complete the activities in the order presented in the assigned chapters during class and lab hours or at home as necessary for timely submission (see Course Guide for schedule). Use the Transmittal page handout as a checklist and for check figures only. Follow instructions in textbook.
- It is not necessary to print all documents and reports. Submit Trial Balances and Journal Reports only for Chapters 5,6, 7, and 8.
- OPTIONAL : To be eligible to earn a grade of A in the course, all transactions for Sports for Chapters 5, 6, & 7 must be satisfactorily completed.
- Complete Sports assignments during class and lab hours or at home as necessary for timely submission (see Course Guide for schedule). Use the Transmittal page handout as a checklist and for check figures only. Follow transactions in textbook.
- PRINT and submit all documents and reports as indicated within the Sports transactions and on the Transmittals handout.
WITHDRAWALS: This is a letter-graded course. It is the student’s responsibility to officially drop the class through CSM Admissions and Records if unable to complete the course; otherwise a failing grade will be recorded.
Required Materials:
TEXTBOOK: QuickBooks Pro 2006, A Complete Course , Horne (Prentice Hall), ISBN 0-13-178982-1
NOTE: Students who have already taken either ACTG 144 or ACTG 145 may continue to use their 2004 textbook instead of purchasing the new textbook, but should then also continue to use the 2004 version of QuickBooks. Class lectures and demonstrations, however, will use the 2006 version of QuickBooks and the new textbook.
SUPPLIES: 1 USB memory stick (128 MB or larger) or 1 Zip disk (100 MB IBM format – 250 MB zip disks will not work in all our computer labs, 750 MB zip disks will not work in any of our computer labs). Floppy disks are not large enough to work with QuickBooks 2006 data files, not even for backing up your work.
NOTE: Students who have already taken either ACTG 144 or ACTG 145 may continue using the same type of disks as they did in the previous course, if desired.
