Course Description:

This course examines the principles, techniques, and uses of accounting in the planning and control of business organizations from a management perspective. Identified are the budgetary process and related performance evaluation techiques, cost-volume-profit relationship, product costing methods, Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing, and Activity Based Costing (ABC). Related theory and application will also be reviewed.

Method:

This class is held primarily online. On a daily basis you should check Web Access for information regarding the chapter and what is due. discussing the chapter and what is required. We will meet live the week before each exam to review the material and discuss what will be on the midterm. When we meet 'online' you should review the lecture notes found at Web Access. The links to the powerpoint slides are located at the end of this page.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how managers use and analyze managerial accounting information to make decisions.
  • Prepare an operating budget and understand where and how to acquire the necessary information.
  • Perform time value of money analysis using discounted cash flow technique. Interpret and explain the difference between net present value, internal rate of return and payback. Analyze a capital budget request.
  • Professionally and effectively collaborate with peers (co-workers) and communicate with instructor (manager)
