Research magnifying glass

Course Description

In LIBR 100 we explore issues related to finding the information you need, when you need it. The course focuses on doing academic research, but the skills that you learn can be used beyond this, and apply to finding information as part of your professional and personal life.

Additionally, we consider what it means to interact with information today both globally and locally, and how the online environment impacts us personally. This includes legal and ethical aspects of using information such as recognizing misinformation like "fake news"; navigating the use copyrighted materials through use of Creative Commons licenses or Public Domain materials; and how to avoid plagiarism.

During the course you will explore a variety of online and physical resources useful for academic research, practice advanced search techniques, and practice evaluating information. Additionally, you will practice developing a focused research strategy.
