Course Description
Pilates method exercise is a form of isometric exercise that simultaneously stretch, tones, and aligns the body while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints. Mat Pilates is designed to improve posture, coordination, and balance; build core strength; increase flexibility and agility; and provide a refreshing mind-body workout.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to;
-- Understand the concepts of “functional neutral spine” to specifically target abdominal strength through body-awareness and practice.
-- Apply Joseph Pilates Method to personal bio mechanics
-- Through breathing work, demonstrate proper postural stabilization
-- Demonstrate Mat Pilates exercises with proper alignment.
-- Understand the concepts of disciplining the muscles of the body in coordination with the breath.

Course Structure
Course will start promptly at 11:10am and 2:10pm. Students that arrive late please enter the room quietly. A brief 10- minute lecture will be given on history, vocabulary, philosophy of Joseph Pilates Method and the Ten Foundation Principles of Movement. A 1hour group workout will be lead by the instructor.The instructor will make reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. Please contact the DSPS office at 7-480 to ask how to qualify

What You Need

-Comfortable attire Yoga Mat
-Water & Towel Resistance Tubing (Premium Versa- Red-medium, Blue-heavy)

Grading Policy

1) Attendance, participation, a written assignments are mandatory. Your grade will be based upon these three factors. Attendance, written reports, and group demo. This includes the fitness testing program.

2) You must inform me by February 4th 2008 about which grade option you want.
