Introduction:

Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve is part of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. The paved Hassler Road formerly provided access to the Hassler Health Home, a tuberculosis sanatorium owned by the City of San Francisco. The site, which includes 366 acres and 6 miles of hiking trails was purchased by the District in 1983.


Driving Directions:
Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve is located in the hills above the towns of San Carlos and Redwood City. From Highway 280, exit Edgewood Road. Travel 0.75 miles northeast on Edgewood Road toward Redwood City. Turn left (north) on Crestview Drive, then immediately turn left on Edmonds Road. Follow Edmonds Road to the preserve entrance on the right.

Objectives:
This is an opportunity to practice identifying plants using your field guide under the same conditions as the field final. We will key out 8 plants in with a time limit of 12 minutes per plant. For each plant you will be graded on the following information; Family, Genus, species, common name, physical description. (1 point for each). You will have the opportunity to go over your list and select 6 plants for grading (6 x 5 points = 30 points).

Potties at trail head and another at about one mile

 

 

Trail Descriptions:

We will follow Blue Oak Trail from the parking lot up to the Hassler Loop Trail
