LESSON FIVE - EXERCISE PART IV: LC EASY Exercise
(25 points)
(Please complete and submit
LESSON FIVE - EXERCISE PARTS I - III before doing this)
This part must be completed in Skyline Library.

This part of the assignment is about Library of Congress call numbers and requires you to complete an online training program called LC Easy. Although this program is normally used to train student library workers, it is being used in this course because it offers a clear explanation of call numbers and call number order.

Please follow these directions:

IMPORTANT: I recommend that you read through these directions before starting LC Easy. In fact, you may want to print out these directions because you won't be able to return to these instructions once you start the program.

IMPORTANT: The LC Easy program cannot be accessed from home. You must use the computers at Skyline Library.

  • Go to Table A in the library. (This is the table to the right of the Reference Desk as you enter the library.)

  • You can use any of the 6 computer workstations at Table A. However, if you choose workstations A1, A2, or A3, you must first log in with your library card number. You are allowed 2 hours at these workstations.

If you choose workstations A4, A5, or A6, you are allowed to log in as a visitor (no card number is necessary) -- but you are only allowed
    30 minutes.
(LC Easy should not take longer than 30 minutes. However, to avoid being timed out, you may want to be at A1, A2, or A3.)

  • On the desktop taskbar, you will see an icon that pictures a small row of books. Point to it and you will see the words "LC Easy" appear.

  • Click on the LC Easy icon.

  • The screen will go black for a moment while the program is loading.

  • If a message appears alerting you to "insufficient memory to run this program," simply click on "OK."
  • At the opening screen for LC Easy, click on "continue" and follow the directions for logging in. When it asks what department you work in, please type "LSCI 100."

  • After clicking on "continue," you will be presented with a list of 3 options. Choose "Begin Lesson."

  • Follow the on-screen directions for the entire lesson.

  • When you reach the end of the lesson, you will be presented with 3 choices. Choose "Print Certificate". A print dialog window will appear. Click on OK.

  • A second box will appear: "Print Control for the Desktop." The cursor is flashing in the box labelled Client ID. Type your initials in this box and click on "Print document."

  • Release your print job from the "Print Release Station" at the end of Table B using your Pinnacle vend card.
  • Turn in your certificate of completion to the librarian at the Reference desk. Lesson 5 is not considered finished until this certificate is received.
  • After printing your certificate, click on "Quit." Thank you!
