Web Based Career Assessments
The Career Center is piloting a comprehensive web-based career assessment package for registered skyline students.
Our assessment package will include the Strong Interest Inventory, Meyers Briggs Type Indicator, and the Self Directed Search.
These career assessment instruments will assist you in gaining self awareness about your interests, work-values, skills, and
personality traits.
If you are undecided about your major, career choice, or simply want to increase you career self-knowledge, stop by the
Career Center to schedule a career counseling appointment.
Our comprehensive web based assessment package is available to registered
Skyline College students as well as Cal Works participants at PeninsulaWorks. PeninsulaWorks

STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY - Find Your Interests and Values
The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) can assist you with identifying and clarifying your interests, values, as well as provide you with direction towards defining your career and academic choices. The SII is based on the theory that individuals who are fulfilled and productive in their jobs usually work in occupations they find interesting. The SII assessment compiles a report that compares your interests and similarities with men and women from 109 different occupations who are satisfied and successful with their careers.

information about the SII assessment, general testing instructions, a password
to access the online SII, and assist you with interpreting the results of your assessment.

MYERS BRIGS TYPE INDICATOR - Find your type
The Myers Brigs Type Inventory M(MBTI M) is a personality
assessment based on Carl Jung's theory of Psychological Type.
It measures your personal preferences on four scales extraversion
vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuitive, thinking vs. feeling,
judging vs. perceiving. Based on your responses you will be
provided with a description of your personality type out of
16 different types. The assessment will highlight 50 occupations
that most likely fit your personality type. You will also
receive a report of the 25 least suited occupations for your
type.

career counselor will provide you with general instructions,
the required password and assist you with interpreting the
results of your assessment.

THE SELF-DIRECTED-SEARCH
The Self-Directed Search (SDS) is based on Dr. John Holland's theory of Personality Type. This theory categorizes individuals into a combination of six different types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. SDS will help you learn about yourself, your job choices and your career. The SDS assessment will determine how well your individual type matches a particular occupation or field of study.

Realistic |
People who like activities that are practical and concrete.
They like to work outdoors and to work with tools and machines using their
physical abilities. They often seek work relating to nature and
the outdoors, mechanics, construction or military service. |
Investigative |
People who enjoy scientific and intellectual pursuits. They
enjoy gathering information, uncovering new facts or theories and analyzing
and interpreting data. They often seek work relating to academic
research, biological and medical facilities, or computer-related industries. |
Artistic |
People who have artistic, innovating, or intuitional abilities and
like to work in unstructured situations, using their imagination and creativity.
They often seek work relating to art, music, drama, writing or in libraries
and museums. |
Social |
People who enjoy working with people - to inform, help, train or develop
them in some way. They enjoy working in groups, sharing responsibilities.
They like to solve problems through discussions of feelings and interactions
with others. They often seek work relating to teaching, counseling,
or recreation. |
Enterprising |
People who enjoy influencing, leading or managing others for organizational
goals or for economic success. They enjoy persuading others to their
viewpoint and prefer social tasks where they can assume leadership.
They often seek out work relating to business management, sales, or politics. |
Conventional |
People who enjoy systematic activities requiring attention to accuracy
and detail, often associated with office work. They enjoy working
for large organizations and like an established chain of command.
They often seek work relating to financial institutions, accounting firms,
or other large businesses. |
