The seeds have very specific qualifications to be able to germinate Germination only occurs on fresh mineral enriched soil in a cool and very damp area. Since leaf litter is widely dispersed all over the forest floor, only about 15-20% of seeds germinate into seedlings. The family circle seen here is a result of asexual reproduction, which is done through root burls.
