Alternating light (I) and dark (A) bands give the muscle fiber
its striped appearance. The light I band consists of actin and
the dark A band is where actin and myosin overlap. The actual
contractile unit or sarcomere extends from the middle of one I
band to the middle of the next I band along the myofibril.
