Using the maps below, answer the following questions about the gel:

1. Which restriction fragment of pAMP contains the amp resistance gene?

2. Which restriction fragment of pKAN contains the kan resistance gene?

3. Which restriction fragment is 784 bp?

4. Why are the pKAN fragments so close together?

What can you conclude from these plates? The original culture was ampsE. coli that is now growing on amp-ara LB agar.

The entire amp-ara-LB agar surface was inoculated with E. coli. How do you explain the ampsE. coli (white satellite colonies) growing only around the red fluorescent E. coli??
