subject headings, classification systems, and call numbers.
- To understand the basic structure and purpose of subject headings.
- To understand the basic structure and purpose of the Dewey
Decimal and Library of Congress classification systems.
- To understand the parts of an LC call number and how books
with LC call numbers are arranged on library shelves.
- To understand the purpose and structure of online catalogs.
- To be able to conduct basic searches of the Peninsula Library
System online catalog, including author, title, subject, and keyword
searches.
- To be able to search the online catalog by keyword, find a
relevant record, and find related books by using that record’s
subject headings.
